The journey from Granada is about 2 hrs and 30 minutes, which we will do in a luxury Mercedes with a private driver.
Upon arrival, we will meet our local guide to start visiting the huge Mosque / Cathedral declared a World Heritage Site, with a unique structure in the world. We will walk through a forest of columns (1,300 in total) and arches, to discover the impressive history of one of the most important monuments of the Islamic and Christian world. And then a key monument in the history of Córdoba: The Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos, which over time has functioned as a barracks, residence of kings, prison and administrative center of the city. And in whose dependencies the meetings between the Catholic Monarchs and Christopher Columbus were held to agree on their trip to the Indies.
Córdoba has a strong Jewish heritage, as we can see at the next stop on our tour, when we visit the Jewish quarter and its synagogue from 1315. The one in Córdoba is in fact one of the only three synagogues that remain in Spain and is located in a beautiful medieval-looking neighborhood with narrow cobbled streets full of charm.
This neighborhood is an excellent option to take a break and enjoy a delicious lunch in the company of our guide, in some of the best restaurants in the area.
And after this well-deserved rest, we will have free time to shop in local handicraft shops and products such as ceramics, leather, jewelry and goldsmiths.
It was time to go back to our to meet our driver and move to the last stop on our tour. One of the most important archaeological sites in the world and a basic element to know the history of Córdoba since it represented the symbol of power of the Independent Caliphate of Córdoba. More than ten thousand workers participated in its construction and emblematic places such as the Throne Room, the Great Portico that welcomed the ambassadors and private spaces such as the Vizier’s house are still preserved.
Once this visit is over, we will say goodbye to our local guide and start our way back to Granada.
